 Specialisation Description
 


The Master’s programme in Czech studies extends the education gained in the Bachelor's degree programme by furthering the knowledge of literary science, including literary history, and the knowledge of modern linguistic and literary theoretical methods. The programme emphasizes theoretical education, study of methods and their application both in linguistic and literary-historical disciplines. Students are directed towards critical creative work, especially critical reflection of theoretical knowledge and their use in the interpretation of artistic texts. A large choice of elective courses (or optional ones) allows students to become more specialized in individual aspects of the field.

 
Graduate profile
 


Graduates are ready to find employment in the field of their studies, both in theoretical knowledge and its practical application. They are versatile in   methodological linguistic or literary theoretical aspects. The programme also offers extended education in areas of literary history and synchronic and diachronic linguistics. Graduates use literary theoretical knowledge to interpret artistic texts and perceive them as a representation of contemporary events and thoughts. Linguistic knowledge extends from the theoretical level to the practical development of communication and stylistic competencies in both spoken and written form.

Graduates can also find employment in a variety of cultural institutions, in the media as well as in expert positions dealing with in cultural heritage or public relations. Graduates of the Master's programme are also prepared for further education in Doctoral studies. The Institute of Czech Studies has an accredited Doctoral study in two specialisations - History of Newer Czech Literature and Czech Language.
