The programme is based on areal approach, i.e. the territorially interconnected concept of Czech and German philology with social sciences. Its content consists of three blocks:
1) Czech philology: courses of Czech linguistics, literary studies (in elective subjects) and generally cultural courses
2) German Philology: courses German linguistics, literary studies (in elective subjects) and generally cultural courses
3) Social sciences: history, in elective courses also political science, regionalistics, state administration in the Czech Republic, Germany and Austria
The central block of the programme consists of German philology.
In the part linguistics section, the disciplines focus on higher levels of the linguistic system (mainly in the form of practical classes) and on current methodology of linguistic analyses. Emphasis is placed on the Czech and German professional language. In the literary section (elective courses) methodological and interpretive aspects of literary-history and literary-theory are emphasized. Close connection between German and Czech philology is provided within contrastive and comparative courses. The theoretical and methodological part of the programme is complemented by German language seminars aiming at increasing the practical linguistic, especially translational, competences of graduates.
Social sciences are represented by courses of history, in elective courses by political science and regionalistics viewing the regions in the wider cultural and historical context and observing their multiculturalism and, at the same time, the diachronically viewed cultural complexity.
Elective courses are divided into two modules: a module with a philological focus and a module with a socio-scientific focus. Students choose one of these modules during their studies, which enables them to professionally profile themselves even during the course of their study.
Students are also offered optional foreign mobility in German-speaking countries. The aim is to enable students to increase their language and communication skills, to confirm their intercultural competencies, to practically apply the theoretical knowledge gained during their studies and to deepen personal cross-border contacts.
