Specialisation Description
 


The study Archival Studies provides a profound insight not only into the broad issues of archival science itself (valid legislation, archive network, archive theory), but also into so-called auxiliary sciences of history, history of administration and history in general, thus creating versatile prerequisites for working with historical sources and understanding historical issues. The Bachelor's study is mainly focused on the modern period (from the 16th century onwards) and aims to equip the students with professional archival-theoretical, historical and linguistic competencies. The study of the theoretical issues of archiving itself is implemented through experts directly on the premises of the State District Archives, part of the study also constitutes of ongoing holiday practicums and professional excursions.

 
Graduate profile
 


Graduates of the Bachelor's degree programme in Archival Studies will have gained a comprehensive knowledge of archival theory and practice (including file service), auxiliary sciences of history, history of administration and history, as well as basic ability to work with historical documents of different types and in various languages.

Graduates will be able to find employment especially in archives of various types (state, specialized, private, etc.), registries, in the state administration or self-government bodies, but also in libraries (especially those with historical funds), antiquarian book shops, museums, monument care or other institutions related to use and protection of the cultural heritage.
