About the FA USB

The Faculty of Arts of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice was established on 1st January 2006. It crystallized from the USB Institute of History, which existed since 2003 as an independent scientific and pedagogical unit within the University. Initially it was joined by the Department of Czech Studies at the Faculty of Education USB. The accreditations for all specialisations of the Institute of History at the University of South Bohemia and of the non-pedagogical specialisations implemented by the Department of Bohemian Studies were transferred to the newly established Faculty of Arts.

The Faculty consists of the Institute of Archaeology, Institute of History, Institute of Archival Studies and Auxiliary Sciences of History, Institute of Czech Studies, Institute of Art and Culture Studies, Institute of Romance Studies, Institute of Czech-German Area Studies and German Studies and Institute of English Studies.

The Faculty of Arts at the University of South Bohemia offers education in the fields of History and Philology and in the fields of Aesthetics and Art History, both in Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral degrees. A high level of education is guaranteed by high-quality research background and extensive publishing activities of the teachers.

The Faculty prides itself in three excellent scientific teams focusing on the history of the newer Czech literature in transnational contexts; the history of society in Czech countries in early modern times and the theory methods and model in contemporary language research . The staff of the Faculty of Arts of the University of South Bohemia regularly publish their studies in prestigious domestic and foreign journals and collections and are authors of a number of monographs. The Institute of History of FA USB publishes its own editions of Opera Historica, Monographia Historica and Sources for Czech History in the 16th - 18th centuries.

The rich scientific and pedagogical contacts established mainly within the Central European area, but also France, Italy or the USA, allow a large number of students to complete part of their studies abroad.
